Time Management: A Daily Planner

Daily planners can be very cool, I promise. This is part two out of two of my time management series where I tell you about objects that can make your life so much easier and organized. Now, my post before this I sounded like your old-fashioned grandma, and I can’t promise that that’s not going to happen again. But, I can say with absolution that you should listen to your grandma because she for sure knows what she’s saying.

A daily or academic planner, whatever you want to call it, is so useful but so hard to stay loyal to. It’s like trying to keep a diary; it requires so much dedication that eventually you just give up. Trust me, I can relate. But it is so helpful if you take the time to force yourself to use it. You think you can remember everything you need to do by when in your head, but eventually you’re going to forget something big and you’re going to regret not writing it down. I’m the perfect straight ‘A’ student to everyone around me and I shocked everyone out of their chairs when I came to class one day and turned in a late pass for a project worth 20% of my grade. I will never forget the horrified look on my teacher’s face who took my pass with a hesitant hand and an unbelieving eye. From that day on, I vowed to write everything I needed to down, even though it got utterly tedious. I was never ever again going to be in that humiliating position. Never.

It takes about 15 seconds to whip out your planner from your backpack and scribble down your homework for the day from the board. Those 15 seconds are going to you a lot of panic and time because when you get home, you are going to know EXACTLY what you need to do and you don’t have to scramble through your muddled and tired brain. Not only that, you can record upcoming test dates and project deadlines in the calendar portion of the planner, helping you see what you need to focus on or what you need to study for. But, sometimes we get so caught up in school and sports and everything else that we forget to have fun. That’s why I personally also put parties I have to go to into my calendar because it’s an important reminder to me to slow down and take a deep breath. After all, girls just wanna have fun.

Until next time, let this following quote make you smile –” I adore spontaneity as long as it is carefully planned.”
